Book Review: Music Theory for Computer Musicians by Michael Hewitt

Posted in Review with tags on August 18, 2009 by djmitchnmatch

Msuic Theory

“Many DJ’s, gigging musicians, and electronic music producers understand how to play their instruments or make music on the computer, but they lack the basic knowledge of music theory needed to take their music to the next level…”

Hewitt’s book is a easy to understand guide to basic music theory, for DJ’s and producers. If you’re just starting out producing, I recommend this book as a good guide to give you a solid foundation in music theory.

The book comes with a CD to illustrate key concepts, and makes the process a lot easier.

The way Australians buy music is about to be revolutionised, with major labels set to offer thousands of songs to customers for a small monthly fee.

From October, families will be able to pay about $10 a month to access thousands of favourite tunes via the internet.

“It’s about to become a service, a commodity like water where it is piped into your home,” said Phil Tripp, a music industry expert from Sydney.
